Rev. Fr. Lawrence Monteiro Called To Heavenly Abode

October 27, 2025: With deep sorrow and heartfelt grief, the Diocese of Khandwa and the parish community of Adyapady–Anthonykatte announce the sad demise of Rev. Fr. Lawrence F. Monteiro, who was called to his heavenly abode on October 27, 2025, at the age of 95.

Born on January 6, 1930, Fr. Lawrence devoted his entire life to the service of God and humanity. He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1959, and served the Diocese of Khandwa with exemplary zeal, compassion, and humility throughout his priestly journey.

Fr. Monteiro hailed from Karambar/Fatima Ward, Adyapady–Anthonykatte Parish, and was the beloved son of Late Piad and Florine Monteiro. He was the brother of Victor Monteiro and Late Leo Monteiro, and is survived by his nephews Mr. Walter Monteiro, Mr. J. R. Lobo (Ex-MLA), along with several other nephews, nieces, and relatives. In recent years, he was residing at Holy Family Ward, Souharda Nagara, Bajpe.

During his six decades of priestly ministry, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Monteiro served in several parishes and institutions, including Burhanpur, Mundi, St. Pius Seminary, and various other mission stations of the Khandwa Diocese. His life was marked by deep faith, simplicity, and unwavering dedication to pastoral service. He was a zealous and committed missionary, tirelessly working for the spiritual upliftment of the faithful and the welfare of the people in the Nimar region.

Expressing deep grief, Most Rev. Bishop Augustine of Khandwa Diocese remarked:

“Fr. Lawrence was a devoted shepherd who gave his all for the Church and the people of God. His departure leaves a great void in our hearts. We commend his soul to the loving care of Our Blessed Mother, Mary.”

The mortal remains of Rev. Fr. Lawrence Monteiro will be kept for public viewing at 10:15 a.m., followed by the funeral rites and Holy Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Antony Church, Anthonykatte.

The Adyapady–Anthonykatte parish community, clergy, religious, and faithful fondly remember Fr. Monteiro for his humility, compassion, and lifelong commitment to Christ’s mission. His priestly life remains a shining example of faith, dedication, and service to the Church.
