St Antony Church, Anthonykatte Joyfully inaugurates 2026 as the “Year of Children”

1 February 2026: St Antony Church, Anthonykatte, joyfully inaugurated the year 2026 as the “Year of Children” with a solemn and grace-filled Eucharistic celebration on 1st February 2026. The initiative marks a parish-wide commitment to place children at the heart of faith formation, pastoral care, and community life throughout the year.

At the beginning of the Holy Mass, children from each catechism class took part in a solemn procession, accompanied by their catechism teachers, Vice President, Gurkar, Parish Pastoral Council members, and Sunday Catechism teachers. The sight of children walking together towards the altar beautifully symbolised the Church’s call to accompany the young on their journey of faith.

Rev. Fr Francis Rodrigues, Parish Priest, led a special prayer over all the children, invoking God’s protection and blessings upon them. He then together with children unveiled the official “Year of Children 2026” logo and extended his heartfelt wishes to every child and family. In a simple and engaging message, Fr Francis explained the meaning and symbolism of the logo, helping both children and the gathered faithful to grasp its spiritual message and pastoral purpose.

Theme of the Year of Children 2026

“Amchim Bhurgim Ballaam, Devachya Razachim Follam”
(“Our children are the fruits of God’s Kingdom”)

This theme reflects the Church’s conviction that children are not merely the future of the Church, but a living, present sign of God’s Kingdom. The year-long initiative seeks to nurture faith, values, and spiritual growth among children, encouraging them to grow closer to Christ and actively participate in the life and mission of the Church.

Meaning of the Logo: Faith in Motion, Sheltered by Grace

The logo has been designed as the visual heartbeat of the diocesan mission for 2026, bridging the local Mangalorean identity with the universal call of the Church, in harmony with the spirit of the 2nd World Day of Children proclaimed by the Holy Father.

Theme & Theological Foundation

“Let the little children come to me.” (Matthew 19:14)
Rooted in this Gospel mandate, the logo reflects a pastoral vision of accompaniment, protection, and joyful discipleship, affirming that children belong at the very centre of the Church’s life and mission.

Symbolic Elements & Their Significance

1. The Central Silhouettes – The Journey of Faith
Three children in mid-stride symbolise energy, joy, and forward movement. They portray children as active disciples, journeying with Christ. This reflects the Church’s mission to walk alongside children as they begin their lifelong path of faith.

2. The Palm-Cross – Sheltered by Grace
The Cross is artistically integrated into a vibrant green palm leaf:

  • Local Identity: The palm signifies the coastal identity of the Diocese of Mangalore.
  • Divine Protection: The curved palm forms a canopy of shade, symbolising God’s grace sheltering children. It also reminds parents, clergy, religious, and lay faithful of their shared responsibility to provide safety, care, and spiritual nourishment.

3. The Blue Waves – Victory over Troubled Waters
The wavy blue lines represent:

  • The World’s Challenges: Secularism, digital risks, and social pressures faced by today’s children.
  • The Mantle of Grace: The protective presence of Christ and Mother Mary, assuring that with Christ as their guide, children can walk confidently through life’s challenges.

4. The Arch of Handprints – Celebrating Uniqueness
An arch of colourful handprints crowns the logo:

  • Individual Talents: Each handprint is unique, celebrating the diverse gifts of every child.
  • Unity in Diversity: Together, they form a “rainbow of promise,” showing unity under one faith family, under the patronage of St Joseph, the protector of families and children.

5. The Circular Typography – The Path of Faith
The circular flow of text symbolises the eternity of God’s love and the passing on of faith from one generation to the next. The inclusion of the Konkani couplet,
ಆಮ್ಚಿಂ ಭುರ್ಗಿಂಬಾಳಾಂ, ದೆವಾಚ್ಯಾ ರಾಜಾಚಿo ಫಳಾಂ”
(Amchim Bhurgim Ballaam, Devachya Razachim Follam),
reaffirms that children are the precious fruits of God’s Kingdom.
